Alternate Realities (Post-Modernism)

Simulacrum: an image or representation of someone or something. An unsatisfactory imitation or substitute.

For this project, students selected an image of a character, celebrity, building, entertainment ride, display, or statue and were asked to modify the original image to make a comment on one aspect of society and create a sort of simulacra. This project explores a reality that references our own but that has been shifted to be its own interpretation. The students were asked to focus on only one main idea, event, or issue, and to change the colors or the style with which it is rendered, add or remove elements, and otherwise alter the picture to express their own idea. The compositions were made using 2 sheets of 11” x 14” Bristol paper, connected seamlessly.
