Perspective/Space (Piranesi)

For this assignment students selected one of Giovanni Battista Piranesi’s Carceri d'Invenzione (Imaginary Prisons) prints to create a new work, partially master-copy and partial invention. On a sheet of 11” x 14” Bristol paper, they utilized half of it to create a master-copy of the Piranesi original, and on the other half extrapolated and filled in the rest with their own idea of the continuation of this imaginary prison. While working on the assignment, students were to consider the perspective elements already present in the composition, and make use of the implied vanishing points as well as other architectural references to create a seamless continuation.
