Repeat Patterns
One of the earliest uses of relief printing was to create elaborately decorated textiles at a cheaper rate than the traditional weaving methods. Later, print became a large part of wallpaper design & production. Following in this tradition and embracing printmaking’s unique capability to create multiples, students designed their own repeat patterns. When designing the pattern, they were asked to consider what they wanted to communicate, and to organize their pattern around a central theme. These color linocuts where printed bleed on 4” x 4” Masa paper, and arranged to create seamless repeat patterns.
